Dear Adelyn & Chloe ~ Love, Mom

(I've been writing letters to the girls since I found out I was pregnant in December 2006. It was a fun tradition that my mom did for me and I loved reading about myself as a baby. I like to share some of the letters every once in a while, so enjoy.)

January 3, 2010 - 2 1/2 Years Old

Dear Adelyn & Chloe,

My, how time passes when you’re busy with twins. It’s been a while since I’ve last written and I wanted to update you on your progress.

You are both cute, active, smart little girls. You have changed so much in the last 6 months, it’s almost unbelievable! I was actually getting a little worried about speech delay (which is normal with twins), but you’ve really caught up quickly. For a long while, Ady was saying a word here or there and then started saying words all the time for things she saw or wanted. Chloe would sign the word, but would only really say words verbally if she REALLY wanted it BAD! But the days of a quiet house are long gone!

You both talk about everything and are starting to put together 3 word phrases!! Barbie, doll, Ginger, movie ("moo-bie"), food, juice ("doo-se"), shoes, "hoe-joo mama", "pay oww-sigh", "sowwy sister", "watch ti-buh-bell", "no wan-it", "love ginger", "park with tids", "help sand cassle", "Daddy i-pod", "Mama shoes", "watch So-Why", names of people, the list goes on and on. You both know lots of colors by sight, you know lots of names of fruits and veggies. You like books and Barbie dolls. You both love playing outside in the dirt and watching the dogs run around. Going to the park is fun and Chloe loves to play with all the “tids” there. Chloe has loved the swings, but Ady not so much. Ady is quite cautious at the park, but once she goes down a slide, the fun starts! We all love Signing Time videos, and signing is now just a part of life. You love to talk about Leah and want to play with her!

Chloe has had a hard time learning to pronounce her name. It usually comes out "Toe-ey" which is close enough. Ady calls Chloe "Coe-ey" - but you both love to sing-song your names when I sing "Adelyn Marie (going up)! Chloe Maxine (going down)!"

Ady had a 'tattle tale' phase for a while and would come tell me, "Coe-ey push butt me." That lasted a few weeks and it got pretty tiring. But we'd say sorry to eachother and hug and then go right on playing.

You are both growing quite tall for your age. You both have such beautiful eyes and love to give hugs and kisses. Adelyn is a bit of a drama queen at times, throwing tantrums and being moody after waking up from naps. Chloe is a go-getter: always looking for something to get into, something to take apart to see how it works. Ady can be so sweet and helpful and is great at sharing with Chloe. Chloe loves to climb and pretend like she's a monkey. You girls can fight one minute, and then be caught hugging and dancing the next minute. You are great friends to each other.

There have been a few big changes for us recently. We moved to a new house. The first few nights, it was a little hard for both of you to get used to the idea of not going "home" to the other house. But after three or four days of being at the new place, you both started saying things like "Big house" or "Pretty House" as you looked around the living room. We've got a great backyard now, with lots of room to run around and play.

Grandpa Rex got pretty sick in August and September. Grandma Sheila and Grandpa Paul came down from SLC to help Daddy while Aunt Aubrey and Aunt Heidi and I went to California to see Grandpa one last time. I knew that Grandpa was pretty sick, so I stayed behind for a few extra days. I helped him take his medicine and kept him comfortable. Great Grandma and I stayed up with him one night and I knew his time was getting short. I told him to say "Hi" to all his other grand-babies and to tell them all about us. He passed away shortly after midnight. I thought it best that you girls didn't come for the funeral, being as you're only 2 years old. You wouldn't understand why Mommy was crying. So, you stayed a week with Grandma & Grandpa in SLC. You had a blast! You still remember things about Grandpa Rex, like foot powder and his cane. You both love riding on the wooden rocking horse that he made for me when I was little. He loved you so much and was so proud of our little family. (Don't worry, I'll tell you lots of stories all about Grandpa Rex when you're older.)

Christmas came and went. You girls got S-P-O-I-L-E-D! We went to the Jarrett Party in Nephi, Utah a few weeks before Christmas. We stayed a few days with Grandma & Grandpa Sharich and had an early Christmas there. Then we had a St George Christmas too. You got so many new toys, books, and games. You even got princess tricycles to ride on our large cement patio in the backyard. Santa brought a stand up basketball hoop for the family and you each got a kid laptop too. We won't need any toys for ages!

You got so much candy! But when we try to give you small, managable pieces of candy canes, neither of you want them because they are "Bow-kin" so full, sticky candy cane it is.

You both like brushing your teeth, and bubble baths, and doing your hair. Adelyn has been quite insistent on wearing a certain flower sundress CONSTANTLY. The only way she'll take it off is if we're watching the bubble bath fill up and I promise to put it in the laundry and get it clean soon. Ady also loves to be pretty. Chloe loves to wear only a diaper and pretend like she is a "baby" - waddling around with her hands out like she's mimicing a penguin.

You love to sing with me. You love to sing the ABC's, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and Wheels on the Bus is a new favorite. Lots of Christmas songs were fun to sing this year. Deck the Halls was called "LaLaLa" and both of you would chime in during the chorus. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer was fun because we knew a lot of sign language for that one. Jingle Bells is still requested in January.

I can't believe that only two and a half years ago, you were new babies that were just coming home from the hospital. So much has changed in such a short time. I joke with everyone, "It's been the longest and the shortest two and a half years of my life" and I've enjoyed every second of it!

I love you more than I ever knew I could. Daddy and I are so proud of you each day.

Love,

Mom
