Catching Some Midnight...Frog?

It was a rainy evening. When I came home from work, I walked up the steps to find a little froggy friend waiting for me on the porch. I thought the girls would love to see a jumping little frog in the morning, so I decided to catch him.

I went into the kitchen and tried to find a little overnight home for him. The best I could do is a flower vase that Ryan gave me a while back. I went outside and put a little rain water, some sticks and a leaf in there to make a little amphibian habitat. I scooped up the hoppy little guy and cupped my hand over the top.

As I entered the kitchen again, I wondered what I should use to cover the top of the vase so he could breathe, but not escape.

A bowl was too curvy and had too much wiggle room for escaping. A plate? Nah.

Saran wrap. That should do it. I'll just poke some holes in the top so the air can circulate. And for good measure, I'll put a hair tie rubber band around the saran wrap so it's sure to stay put.

There. Safe and sound.

Ginger was bewildered. But I went about my normal "home from work" routine for a few minutes and then decided to check back on our little visitor.

His little head was poking out of one of the holes in the saran wrap. DANG.

Plan B! Um... I got nothing. I'll just let him go......WHOA! He just burst out of the fine tuned, high tech architecture of my saran wrapped vase and onto the kitchen floor. Prison break!

The chase was on. Ginger even "helped" corner him in the kitchen. "Don't eat him, Ginger."

He jumped under the chairs. He hopped under the big metal rack. It was now a battle of wits and speed.

I moved the rack out of the way and leaned in for the victory. No dice. He's a sneaky devil. "Ginger, cover me while I grab a cup."

After some bodily twisting and bending I'd never done before, I managed to scoop the critter into the small plastic cup and take him back outside.

I let him go in my garden. I just hope he hangs around a while and eats some big, bad garden bugs for me.

As for a surprise pet for the girls? Um. Maybe a goldfish is more our style.

  2. Mean while, I'm downstairs in bed after taking some Nyquil, I hear all of this going on (didn't know she brought a friend into the house) and hear her talking. I was like, "Who the heck is she talking to...?"
