Food Storage Room

So, our little food storage room is coming along nicely. I love these shelves we bought at Costco for $60 each. All I needed for set up was a rubber mallet. I've got the "fruits" of my first tries at pressure canning on the shelf on the right. Some potatoes, carrots, celery, and even chicken and pork. I've added some tomato sauce (Ryan's Grandma's Recipe) and did a taco soup and a beef stew as well. Glad we're getting some food and other supplies put away.

I'm also trying to encourage others to do the same.

So far in the garden, I've got carrots and onions planted and some bell pepper and tomatoes started from seeds. Hopefully, I'll be able to plant my beans in the next few days and some squash and melons before it gets too hot!

My next attempt at being self sufficient will be to build a chicken coop (maybe even a chicken tractor) and start to raise chickens for eggs (and maybe I'll even learn to butcher a chicken if need be). I'd like to get 4-6 hens for laying, just enough to have plenty of eggs for us since the girls like eggs for breakfast and Ryan has been into cookie-making lately.

Well, that's it from us. We'll be in SLC visiting the Sharich/Jarrett side this next weekend. Then back to gardening and chicken cooping.
